So, I recently chanced upon a new restaurant during one of my runs around my neighbourhood. I popped in for a quick look at the menu, and was greeted with a cool and spacious interior in a buzzy atmosphere caused by a full house. I saw pork, burgers and fries on the menu and quickly vowed to be back soon, when I was less sweaty and more appropriately dressed for dinner.
Finding myself with a free slot for dinner two fridays ago, I headed over to Porky’s BBQ with my partner-in-life-and-burger-crime for some porky goodness. Rather surprisingly, we found the restaurant to be uncharacteristically quiet for a Friday. We weren’t going to complain though, as it meant that we could at least enjoy each other’s company and have a conversation without having to shout, whilst having the sole attention of our waiter.
Our one page food menu was placed in front of us, and we had the difficult choice to make of how we wanted to have our meat. Though there were many things I wanted to try from the menu, I decided not to get overly excited and went with the Porky Burger. The description said 8oz of beef pattie, topped with pulled pork, streaky bacon, cheese and lettuce in a soft bun – if I had to go for one thing, this was going to be it! What a combination!
As the waiters seemed to have a lot of time on their hands, we ended up chatting to a few just to ask how things were going and what business was like. We found out that the first branch of Porky’s BBQ is located up in Camden, and that this Bankside branch has only been in operation for 3 weeks.
As predicted, service was quick and our food soon arrived. All talking stopped when this monster was placed in front of us.
You want another look you say? Here you go…
Now that’s a pork filled burger! 100% British beef, lying on a bed of slow-cooked pulled pork, topped with streaky bacon and jack cheese. I’m glad I decided against ordering french fries on the side because this in itself was a mission to finish.
Happily stuffed, my partner and I both agreed that the burger was very good, which means that it might become one of our go-to restaurants for a quick local bite. I’m already wondering what I’m going to be ordering on my next visit…
